What exactly *is* a WC?

WC'ing is a great resource and a useful networking tool. It is simply a Writer's or Word Challenge.

A group of people get together via a chat setting (*Normally Gchat, Skype or Chatzy*). They chat and introduce themselves, sometimes setting goals for their writing session or mentioning what they have to start with.

At a set time, usually either :00, :15, :30, :45, etc, everyone wanders off to focus on their writing. A pre-determined time later, everyone comes back to the chat area in order to tell if they met their writing goal (usually a word count), share teasers of what they wrote during the WC and ask for any help that they feel they need.

You can find scheduled ones or check Twitter for some practically at any time. I'm a WC Leader for The Twilight Awards and host one every Wednesday evening at 9:00PM, EST. Most last from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the host.

If you aren't sure about doing one, just join in, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Plus you can find some great friends along the way. I personally find that they help me focus more and I've also found some really good stories as well.

*Gchat* is the chat system featured on Gmail. It's the most often preferred means of WCing, especially for pick up ones. There is a small section (on the left-hand menu, underneath your mail options) where you can add people's email addresses to be able to chat with them.

*Skype* is "Software that enables the world's conversations. Millions of individuals and businesses use Skype to make free video and voice calls, send instant messages and share files with other Skype users." Basically, Skype has a chat system that works similar to Gchat, but you get booted off a lot less, lol.

*Chatzy* is "A free private chat service which you can use to communicate with people you already know or people who visits your blog or website. With Chatzy you can create a chatroom and send out email invitations very quickly and easily. No registration is required." It's lesser used in WC's ( my experience at least), but it still works rather well. It caps a room at about 10 people.

If you're holding a larger WC, your best bet is Skype. It's much more organized and can hold more people.

Edward's lips placed hot, open mouthed kisses across her jaw and down her neck. Desire, hot like a knife, shot through her veins.

"Edward," she gasped. "Can we move to the bed?"

Without a word, his hands found their way down to cup her bottom and he walked carefully over to the bed, before depositing her gently.

Bella reached out for him and pulled him to stand between her legs. She nervously looked up into his heavy-lidded eyes and bit her lip. She was tired of stopping and ready to move forward.

"I want you," she said softly. "Please let me have you."

"Hello again, Isabella. Do you think that we could talk?"

Bella was caught off guard at the sound of Renee's voice. It sounded the same as remembered from her childhood. When she looked into her mother's hazel eyes, she noticed that the wrinkles and tired expression in her face made her look older than her forty years.

"What is there to talk about, Renee?" she asked, doing her best to keep hostility out of her voice.

Her mother smiled sadly and nodded. "I know you probably hate me, but there's a lot that I'd like to explain to you."

"Bella? Is everything alright?" Esme asked, walking over to her side.

"Yes, Esme. Everything is fine," she replied with a kind smile.

"Who is you friend, dear?" Esme asked, wary of the woman who had caused Bella to become uncomfortable and tense.

"Esme, this Renee Dwyer. Renee, this is Esme Cullen. Esme is my son's grandmother," Bella explained, her voice betraying no emotion.

Chapter 27

Bella turned and smiled at Edward, who was talking animatedly with her father about the last play that had taken place on the field. Jack sat on the his father's left side, paying rapt attention to everything that the two men were saying.

Charlie turned and nudged Edward in the side. "I would have figured you for a Sox, fan, Ed."

Edward rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly before responding. "Uh, the Sox are away this week."

Charlie laughed loudly and slapped his knee.
Bella shook her head and reached into her jeans pocket to pull out her vibrating phone. She frowned as she noticed that a text from an unknown number was on her screen. Opening it, she gasped and covered her mouth.

Chapter 26

O_o_O_o_O_o_O_o_O_o_O_o_O_o_O_o_O_o_O_o_O_o_O_o_O

Edward smiled widely and reached out to shake Charlie's hand. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Chief Swan. Jack and Bella have told me so much about you. It's an honor to get to meet you and thank you for everything you've done."

Bella swallowed nervously as she watched her father measure up the man she loved. After their experiences with Jacob, Charlie was particularly over-protective any time a man came to pick her up for a date. That being one of the major reasons she had dated few and far between over the years. As she stood there anxiously awaiting whatever intimidation tactic that Charlie had planned, he completely shocked her by nodding and shaking Edward's hand firmly. Her jaw almost dropped as she watched her normally gruff father swallow and blink away tears.

"It's good to meet you, son. They've both told me great things about you as well. As a father myself, I can't imagine what you've been through, but I'm glad it's all worked out for the best."

Chapter 25

O_o_O_o_O_o_O_o_O_o_O_o_O_o_O_o_O_o_O_o_O_o_O_o_O

Victoria's gaze landed on Jack's trembling form, an evil smirk resting upon her face. Bella felt an overwhelming wave of fury and protectiveness boil in her veins. She moved swiftly in front of her son, cutting off Victoria's view and placing her squarely in the line of fire, meeting Victoria's startled gaze. She didn't care whose blood ran through Jack's veins, he was her son and she was protecting him until her last breath.

The red haired witch cocked her head to the side and eyed Bella speculatively, as if she were a hunter analyzing her prey. Victoria's icy blue eyes narrowed and she took a step forward. Bella shifted into a defensive stance and clenched her fists at her sides, thankful for all of her father's self-defense lessons. This bitch wasn't laying a hand on her boy's head.

Chapter 24 is up!

This early update is brought to you by the Fandom for Preemies fundraiser.

For those of you who questioned Jack's mood in the last chapter and parts of this one, the Outtake should clear a few things up. There are *over* 100 authors taking part, including a special Jack POV Outtake from Parachute. It ties into Chapters 23 & 24. If you can spare the donation, please do so! The March of Dimes is a very worthy charity! (Link to their site is on my profile and the blog!)

Teasers for the Parachute: Jack POV Outtake!

You’ve been gone for too long, Jackson,” she spoke in a sickly sweet voice. “Mommy missed you.”
He shook his head. “No, you’re not my mom anymore. Bella is. She loves me.”
The woman cocked her head to the side. “No, no she’s not,” she replied. “You’re coming with me. Renee is going to stay and take care of her daughter. You are going home with me. Don’t you want to see your Daddy?”
His heart started to hurt and he felt so sad thinking about his dad. He wanted to see him and hug him so bad, but not if he had to leave Bella.
“Yes, I want Daddy,” he whispered, “but I’m not going with you. Never again.”
Anger flashed across her face and she hit him across the cheek. His hand shot to his face and rubbed the stinging area. His mind whirled and he remembered flashes of the last time she had hit him. Crying on a plane and staring out at the sky. Calling out that he wanted Daddy. Being dragged into an empty bathroom. Being hit when he wouldn’t quiet down. Having his pants pulled down when he only cried harder.
He fell down on his bottom, overwhelmed with memories. His mother reached for him again, but he scrambled away.
“No, you can’t have me!” he yelled at her.
From nowhere, he felt strong arms wrap around him from behind, forgetting that Renee was in the room. His mother walked slowly towards him and reached out for him. He struggled and tears started to fall.
“No! No! NO!”

From the Fandom For Preemies blog:

Preterm birth is a serious problem affecting children across the world. Every year over 20 million children worldwide are born prematurely. Over 1 million of these children will not survive. 1 in 10 of those who do survive will face life-long health complications and risks directly associated with their preterm birth, including serious complications such as cerebral palsy.

The reality is frightening, but it's not hopeless! Thanks to the work of the March of Dimes and its global partners, the survival rate of premature infants is higher than it has ever been.

During Prematurity Awareness Month this November, Fandom for Preemies, with your help, will raise funds to support the March of Dimes as they work to eliminate this global issue. The March of Dimes is the world's largest nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health. In 2009 alone, they contributed over 20.3 million dollars to eliminate preterm birth, birth defects and infant mortality across the globe.

In thanks for your support of this worthy cause, fanfiction authors across the fandom will donate one-shots, story outtakes and original works for a compilation. Those who donate a minimum of $5 to the March of Dimes during the month of November will receive this compilation in appreciation.
